<\/p>\nFrieda River Limited’s (FRL) recent sponsorship of specialised surgery equipment has enhanced Papua New Guinea\u2019s 2025 Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery program.<\/p>\n
In receiving the equipment from FRL Country Manager Dr. Joel Hamago, a happy Head of Papua New Guinea\u2019s Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Unit at the Port Moresby General Hospital, Dr. Jackson Nuli said the equipment will play a vital role in the upcoming reconstructive surgery exercise at the Boram Hospital in East Sepik.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe specialised equipment is difficult to procure, therefore we are very grateful for the assistance of Frieda River Limited and PanAust. Many children, men, and women will benefit from this important surgical equipment,\u201d said Dr Nuli.<\/p>\n
The equipment includes nerve and cleft palate trays which comprise microsurgical instruments such as tissue forceps, surgical clamps, scalpels, nerve grafting tools, needles, and suturing materials used in delicate procedures to repair cleft lips, cleft palates, and other deformities which can occur during foetal development, and nerve repair caused by cuts, burns, and other injuries. Repair operations help to improve functions such as mobility, speech, feeding, and appearance enabling people especially children to reach their full potential in school and the wider community.<\/p>\n
In March 2025, Dr. Nuli will be part of a team of Australian surgical volunteers from Interplast going to Wewak to conduct free consultations, perform surgeries, and train PNG surgeons, nurses, and anaesthetic support staff.<\/p>\n
Under a partnership agreement, FRL and PanAust\u2019s current three-year assistance for the Interplast program for the Sepik provinces began in 2024, following the disruption by the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n
