PanAust donates US$20,000 to assist Vietnam typhoon victims

On 7 December, PanAust’s Lao-registered Company, Phu Bia Mining (PBM) donated US$20,000 to the Quang Binh Red Cross Society relief efforts following five consecutive typhoons that devastated central Vietnam in October and November.

In-country Company representatives were on hand for the donation ceremony which took place on 7 December. Vice Chairman of Quang Binh People’s Committee, Mr Nguyen Tien Hoang was pleased to receive the donation on behalf of the Quang Binh Government.

PanAust has a long-standing history of supporting the communities close to where it operates during times of crisis. Company representatives hope this donation will provide assistance to those who have been adversely impacted and help repair the damage the typhoons inflicted on Quang Binh province.

The Company’s Vietnam haulage operations were brought to a halt in November when a section of National Road 12A collapsed for the first time since the last historic flood recorded in the area in 1979. All PBM trucks were grounded with 100 per cent of copper concentrate haulage diverted immediately to Thailand from PBM Operations in Laos.

Plans are underway for PBM’s safe and successful return to the Vietnam route in the near future with a trial convoy planned for Friday 11 December.
